Dot & Mae do Duofest 2013

Philadelphia - the city of brotherly love, philly cheese steaks, and Duofest!

We had a great time in Philly for this festival of all improv duos. We felt pretty lucky to be a part of this festival for our introduction to American improv festivals. A big thank you to the producers of the festival and to our lovely billet (a Canadian word, we learned), Kristin, for having us. Oh, and K.P. the cat. For two non cat-lovers, K.P. really won over our hearts.

We had a great time doing our set on the first night with our patient suggestions of 'Theodore' who was passionate about stained glass and "Chu" (sp?) who was passionate about Mexico (which turned into a passion for tequila... naturally). AND we had some Philly talent, Zach, who accompanied us on the piano. Rock star.  It was a really fun set.

Next up Dot & Mae head to Winnipeg, Manitoba, for the Winnipeg Fringe Festival in July 2013! If you are in Winnipeg, or know someone who is that enjoys some good improv, see the above link for our schedule. We'd love your support!

Xo,

Dot & Mae

VIIF 2012

Hello friends,

A few weeks have passed already since Judy and I were at The Vancouver International Improv Festival and we wanted to write a little post to reflect/report on our experience, as well as to thank some important people who made it possible.

If you've never been to VIIF, you should make it a goal to go. VIIF is a week long improv festival in Vancouver featuring groups from all over Canada, the U.S, as well as some international performers. Each night you can show up to see your favourite groups, and be pleasantly surprised by the groups you don't know.

Judy and I had a wonderful time throughout the whole week. We felt good about our set on the Tuesday night (following the awesome set from Hip.Bang!), and then had the rest of the week to enjoy the other shows. There were so many inspiring groups. We particularly loved the sets of two other female duo troupes - Virginia Jack (Nicole Passmore and Briana Rayner) and The Kristen and Amie Show (Kristen Schier and Amie Roe).

We'd like to thank Alistair Cook and his VIIF team so much for having us as part of the festival. We were so honoured to be a part of such an excellent event.

Secondly, we'd like to thank the Saskatchewan Arts Board for their very generous support. Their financial assistance through the Travel Grant program helped us to cover our airfare, accommodation, and meal costs for the week. We could not have done it without you. Thank you!

All in all, VIIF was just the best, joy-filled, inspiring time. We hope to do it again soon.

That's all for now, folks. As always, check back again for more upcoming updates!

Sincerely,

Lucy & Judy (Dot & Mae)

The Magnetic Theatre Festival

Happy Friday!

Tomorrow we are driving to Calgary to participate in the Magnetic North Theatre Festival's Speed Dating Sessions.

Theatre Presenters from across Canada will meet with theatre artists pitching their shows. We will have 10 minutes with each presenter to tell them about Dot & Mae: Delusions of Grandeur

We are so excited for this opportunity to spread the word about our little show. We hope to take this show to many Canadian cities in the next year or two!

In addition to the Speed Dating Sessions, we will also be seeing many new Canadian theatre shows and attending various lectures and events that are part of the festival.

Well, back to packing! Stay tuned for more updates about the festival and other future plans.

xoxo,

Lucy & Judy (Dot & Mae)

A Look Back to Friday Night

So the 4th Annual General Fools Festival came to a close on Saturday. What a great time!

Dot & Mae performed on Friday night at the 10 p.m show and had a blast! We made some slight adjustments to the format prior to our show that made a huge difference for us and allowed us to have more fun and play!

On Friday night Dot and Mae lost a patient, Reggie, and were deeply concerned for the consequences from their superior, Mrs. Shelton.

We also met some interesting patients: the man passionate about nail paint (with the magic touch), the mashed potato sculptor, and the hockey motivational singer.

We should also mention our accompanist for the evening, Emmett Hall, who played along with us brilliantly! Thanks, Emmett!

Thanks to the General Fools for having us as part of the festival, to the rest of the ensemble for being so hilarious and inspiring, to the Artesian for being such a beautiful venue, and to the incredibly energetic and enthusiastic audience!

Well, that's all for now, folks.

Stay tuned for an exciting update that we will announce later this week!

xoxo,

Dot & Mae
